How to get an eVisa

You will need to create a UKVI account on the government website to apply for and access your eVisa. The process is free.

To create a UKVI account, you will generally need access to a smartphone, a mobile number and an email address, as well as your BRP and valid passport. If you do not have one of these, or do not feel confident using the internet, you can get help on the phone or in person. Find out more about getting help with the eVisa application process

Traveling without an eVisa

If you need an eVisa and don't yet have one, traveling internationally may be difficult. If you are worried about how to pass border checks, please contact the UKVI Resolution Centre.

Replacing your permanent settlement document with an eVisa

If you have a document showing you have the right to permanent settlement in the UK, and you don't have a biometric document, you need to make what is known as a 'no time limit' application.

If you’re making a no time limit application you’ll also need:

  • your settlement document, for example a passport containing a stamp or vignette sticker
  • the passport or travel document you used when you most recently entered the UK

You may also need to provide evidence that you have not been absent from the UK for more than two years.

We are currently advising clients not to travel while they have a pending no time limit application.
