Employment status in the UK is determined on the basis of practice. Whenever a dispute arises Employment Tribunals consider a number of criteria such as: who decides how the work is done, how regular the payment is, or who provides materials.
This questionnaire uses these criteria to provide you with a sense of direction, before you go to court. If you work for more than one person or business, answer the questionnaire for each job separately - you could be self-employed in one job, whilst being employed in another. And remember: results are only indicative. Only a tribunal can determine your employment status with certainty, and grant you access to the associated rights.
