Open for applications: Training programme for London organisations advising migrant workers
Migrant workers face significant barriers to justice, from lack of rights awareness, to immigration restrictions, and perhaps most importantly, the lack of high-quality advice.
With support from the Greater London Authority, this summer the Work Rights Centre is once again running a free training programme for employment rights advisers, frontline staff supporting victims of labour exploitation, and all those seeking to begin their journeys into employment advice.
This in-depth training programme will be delivered as a five-week-long series of online workshops, with two cohorts starting in June and September.
The sessions will cover:
-
Immigration status, right to work, and why it matters in the context of employment disputes
-
The National Referral Mechanism for victims of modern slavery
-
Introduction to employment rights disputes
-
Types of dismissals and how to evaluate them
-
Protected characteristics and discrimination claims
-
Exercising your rights: ACAS notifications and Employment Tribunal claims
The recently updated sessions will cover the critical changes to employment law inherent in the Employment Rights Act 2025. The training will include pre-reading and further reading materials, a selection of real-life case studies and small group discussions.
About the experts: Sessions will be delivered by the Work Rights Centre’s Head of Employment, Sarmila Bose and Head of Immigration, Luke Piper. Both are experienced solicitors and experts in providing employment and immigration advice to migrants, and in supporting victims of modern slavery.
Who can register? This programme is aimed at frontline advisers from London-based organisations and local authorities, who are either keen to start offering advice in employment rights for migrant workers, or looking to improve the quality and scope of their existing advice.
When and where:
-
Cohort 1: June - July 2025, online weekly sessions
-
Cohort 2: September - October 2025, online weekly sessions
Cost: The training is completely free. Additionally, qualifying organisations, who take an active part in all sessions of the programme will be reimbursed for their time.
