We are recruiting a Senior Communications Officer

By Olivia Vicol - 14 July 2023

Do you start your day with a cause you care about, and down your tools only after you've told the world about it? If so, we'd love to hear from you.

We are a charity dedicated to employment justice. Every week our multilingual teams of advisers  provide free, confidential advice to migrants and disadvantaged Britons. We help beneficiaries access their employment rights, secure their immigration status, and find better employment. We also produce public-facing materials such as FAQs, blog posts, infographics, and occasionally videos, which build public knowledge for the long-term.

Over the past 7 years, we assisted over 5,000 individuals. Simultaneously, our researchers documented and exposed the structural drivers of migrant exploitation, in publications which were covered by the Times, the Guardian, and ITV. We couldn’t have done it without an expert communications officer.

The Senior Communications Officer role

We are looking for an ambitious communications professional to continue to grow the profile of the charity, and lead on the delivery of our communications strategy.

You will be working closely with both our researchers and advisers, and publish content across a range of platforms. One day, for instance, you will draft an opinion piece in response to a big policy development. On another day you will be working on client-facing materials such as an FAQ, designed to make that same policy development easy to understand.

This is an ideal opportunity for a confident and technically savvy writer, who values the opportunity of working in a small but ambitious organisation, and the chance to use their talent to achieve real social impact.

The candidate

We are looking for a candidate who shares our mission, and can connect the dots between our charitable work and the main news agenda. We want to hear from you if you can demonstrate:

  • 4 years of experience in communication;
  • a track record of successful delivery against communications objectives on social media;
  • a track record of successful relationship building and mentions in traditional media;
  • familiarity with content management tools (like MailChimp, Buffer etc);
  • excellent written English (you know your "it's" from "its");
  • a real interest in employment justice for migrant workers.

How to apply

Download the job description and follow the process. The deadline for applications is  the 13th of August, 23:59. In summary, we want to see your CV, Cover letter, and a brief portfolio. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to complete a short task before the interview.
